Product Description

‘Ohelo Records is proud to present Weldon Kekauoha’s newest recording entitled Ka Lehua ‘Ula
Returning to tradition, Kekauoha presents a traditional-Hawaiian album speaking of the love
for his family and the beauty of Hawai’i.

The title cut, Ka Lehua ‘Ula is a love song written by Kekauoha to his wife comparing her
beauty to the red Lehua blossoms in the forests of Pana’ewa.  The haunting melody of Ka Makani
Ka’ili Aloha
exemplifies Kekauoha’s further growth as vocalist.  Hula favorites such as Mele O
Lana’i
and Ku’u Hoaloha uses the sounds of classic Hawaiian steel guitar to recall a time
when pineapple reigned king on Lana’i and when friends gathered at the home of Helen Tam
at Wa’ahila.  We visit Maui and Hawai’i with Ka ‘Aina Kaulana ‘O Hana Nei and Ka Nani
A’o Kilauea
, original compositions featuring Kekauoha’s use of Leo Ki’eki’e or Hawaiian
falsetto.  A playful rendition of On The Beach At Waikiki shows a “kolohe” or rascal side
of Kekauoha, while in contrast Thank You Lord shows a reverent song of praise to ke akua.
Lei Ho’oheno is a colorful masterpiece of vocal arrangement speaking of love.  And lastly,
He Mele No Kaua’i Kuapapa
, is a story telling of Kaua’i’s famous beauty.

Weldon Kekauoha officially emerged onto the Hawai’i music scene in 1999 with the release
of his first solo-album Hawaiian Man.  It went to receive three Na Hoku Hanohano nominations
winning “Most Promising Artist” in 2000.

The following year Kekauoha became a member of the Mana’o Company sweeping the 2002 Hoku’s
with their album entitled Spread A Little Aloha winning five of the coveted awards.

In 2003, Kekauoha released his second album entitled Kanaka Maoli, which garnered three
nominations at the 2004 Hoku’s.  It included many compositions penned by the artist displaying
his maturity and versatility.

It is our pleasure to present to you Ka Lehua ‘Ula, a collection of songs, old and new.
Each one recalling a special moment in time.  Perhaps the words may serve to evoke an emotion,
or maybe the melody calls to mind simply put, it’s the music of Weldon Kekauoha!
