Product Description
At age 25, Samson "Spookahuna" Malani is the president of Tiki
Entertainment.
Working alongside co-owner, mentor and "company back-bone" Doug
Farrar,
"Spoox" (as he is known by his label mates) is a definite one
of a kind.
With musical influences ranging from 50's & 60's classics, to Hawaiian
legend
"Izrael Kamakawiwo'ole", and underground hip hop heads such as
"Company Flow",
Spookahuna's style can be described as a truly original, thought-provoking
approach
to rap and life in general.
In an industry that is quick to glorify the negative, Spoox really doesn't
like to
highlight what he describes as shortcomings in life growing up. A self-proclaimed
"Moke", Spoox embraces this title with pride. To say he is proud
of his Hawaiian
heritage would be an understatement. Observing Locals as underdogs in society,
Spoox has geared his music toward inspiring his fellow Kama'aina. One thing
that is
very apparent about Spoox is his genuine love and interest for all human
beings, and
he is quick to point out the positives in the people around him.
Following the passing of his mother, Spoox's debut album entitled "HIStory
in
the Making: Chapter 1" was born. The title has multiple meanings. First,
is "HIS story"
describing his life happenings to others, "HI (abbreviation for Hawaii)
Story" for
his deep-rooted pride in his culture growing up as a local boy in Oahu,
and last,
"history in the making" as this album formulates a bridge between
the innovation
of underground hip hop and the broad appeal of commercial rap.
With features artist like his cousin Malu, Lowie Boy, and Terry D, Spookahuna's
"HIStory in the Making: Chapter 1" is a poignant album for all
who are eager
to empower themselves.
