The Hawaiian music scene welcomes debut artist Richie Choffo.
Choffo, whose tender and rhythmic
steel guitar captures the spirit of Hawaii for any ear craving a bit of
tradition with a new twist.
“The concept of my music may not be traditional, “ he says, “but
it is a blend of Hawaiian and
of my other musical influences, and I hope you enjoy it.”
Like many musicians visiting Hawaii, Choffo immediately embraced the distinctive
melodies and
rhythms of our eclectic local culture, and although an experienced musician,
Steel My Heart
is his debut solo album.
Choffo was born and raised in New Jersey and began playing guitar, mostly
Jazz, Blues, and Rock,
when he was only 9 years old. With his rock band, North Star, he toured
Hawaii for the first time in
1980. While touring Hawaii, he experienced the true spirit of Aloha that
would inspire him to 10 years
later come back not just to visit, but decided to live here.
Living in Hawaii, surrounded by a rich culture, especially in music, opened
the door for Choffo
to explore and deepen his admiration for the rhythmic steel guitar. The
public was able to share
his discovered and newly trained craft at convention centers and luau shows
and with time the
idea for a solo album was born.
