Product Description
GO Aloha Entertainment presents An Old Fashioned
Christmas, a collection of seasonal
tunes that is sure to get the sourest grinch in the holiday spirit!
This family-friendly collection features several artists including local
favorites the
Opihi Pickers, new duo Imua Garza & Kamu Sing,
singer Clint Torres and
newcomer Kaipo Kapua in his recording debut.
The Opihi Pickers help spread the cheer with five generous
offerings including two
classic upbeat holiday tunes; "JingleBell Rock,"
made famous by Bobby Helms in
1957, and "Sleigh Ride," originally composed
for orchestra by Leroy Anderson
in 1948 with lyrics added by Mitchell Parish in 1950.
Listeners will also enjoy their instrumental version of "Carol
of the Bells" featuring
Imua Garza's skillful ukulele playing. The composition,
originally a Ukrainian song
based on an old Slavic legend that every bell in the world rang in honor
of Jesus
on the night of his birth, was first performed in 1916 at Kiev University.
A local holiday album would not be complete without "Mele Kalikimaka"
written by Robert
Alexander Anderson in1949 and made popular on a recording from 1950 by Bing
Crosby
and the Andrew Sisters. On their version, the Opihi Pickers
don't disappoint with Kevin
Okimoto and Imua Garza trading off on lead vocal
duties and playful ukulele picking
peppering the track with various Christmas melodies throughout.
The Opihi Pickers also offer "Christmas Eve
by the Fireside with You" a relatively
forgotten Christmas piece from 1960 which is brought back to life with an
island flavor.
Imua Garza & Kamu Sing entered Hawaii's local music
scene as a duo in 2005
with the release of their debut CD, Harmony City.
They are featured here along with
their friend Clint Torres as a trio on the powerful "Don't
Save It All for Christmas Day,"
a number that Clint and Kamu performed
together last holiday season during a Christmas
program for New Hope Church. Kamu also joins Clint
on the stunning "My Christmas
Prayer," composed by Bebe Winans who was inspired to write
the song, while
visiting U.S. troops in the Middle East to offer hope and encouragement
to the
soldiers' families.
Imua contributes his solo talents on the emotionally moving
"Mary Did You Know?"
and on the intimate "Christmas Lullaby" accompanied
only by his ukulele.
This project also introduces a fresh new recording artist to the local music
scene,
singer Kaipo Kapua. Kaipo performs lead
and backing vocals on his version
of "The Christmas Song," a song best known from
Nat King Cole's original
rendition recorded in 1946. Expect big things from Kaipo
following the
release of his debut full-length compact disc in early 2006.
