Product Description
Raised on the slopes of Haleakala, this band of musicians
have been setting the standard for Maui’s
music scene for over five years. Starting out as members of the group
Ho’omau, they re-emerged
in 2001 with a new sound, a new name, and a new album, showcasing the products
of their
diverse influences.
This debut record, Open Doors for Strangers,
by Maui’s own Nuff Sedd represents a personal triumph
for each group member. It’s an energetic, upbeat testament to
a project, which took over two years to create.
In a time when cover tunes seem to rule the airwaves, this foursome bravely
offers catchy, original lyrics laid
over ska-like beats to lend the listener a 15-track party.
Their first single, a UB40-esque island party anthem entitled
Cherry Bomb leads things off and then
segues into the very catchy club classic Cuckoo. The listener
barely gets a moment to catch their breath
before engaging in another captivating melody. Even through the heartfelt
ballad Love for Life, the Nuff Sedd
groove goes undaunted.
A band of four with the sound of ten, Nuff Sedd’s
debut album sets out to blaze a new trail for Hawai’i’s
music, and with 15 tracks of funk, reggae, and rock, this is a ride not
to be missed.
