Product Description
From our backyards, singing with our kupuna, music became second nature
to us. It’s as basic
as speaking and is the link to our past, present and future. With that common
thread, it was
most befitting that Keao Costa, Kehau Tamure and Kuana Torres would create
the melodic
sounds of Na Palapalai and bring to you their debut album, "Makani
‘Olu’olu". Na Palapalai
captures the magic of the nostalgic falsetto sounds of yesterday, incorporating
a synergistic
blend of today, and manifesting a sound that will be perpetuated for tomorrow.
With the ever-evolving changes and trends of contemporary island music,
Na Palapalai responded
to the many requests of friends and family to bring back the sound of when
life was simple. Days
when we would gather in our backyards with family and friends and enjoy
each other’s company.
Na Palapalai remains true to the oldest form of Hawaiian music, one in which
their kupuna
would be very proud.
Makani ‘Olu’olu includes 12 songs of which 8 are beautiful
classics and 4 songs are unforgettable
original compositions. Familiar to Hawaiian music lovers are compositions
by Hawaiian music
treasures, such as Mary Kawena Puku’I, Bill Ali’iloa Lincoln,
Johnny Kameaaloha Almeida
and Kahauanu Lake. The title track of the album, "Makani ‘Olu’olu",
and "Ke Ua Nei" show us
comfort in natural elements and is composed by Kehau Tamure. Kuana Torres
caresses us with
an inviting chill in "Ke Anu O Waimea." The first released single
of the album "Pili Kapekepeke"
reminds us that love can be very fickle and is a grateful gift from Julian
Ako.
