Product Description
Following their debut album, Maunalua, which received the award for Best Hawaiian Album of the Year
at the 2001 Na Hoku Hanohano awards and their second album, Kuleana, which Maunalua received
the award for Group of the Year and Favorite Entertainer of the Year at the 2004 Na Hoku awards,
the members of Maunalua have been working hard to carefully nurture their music to remain
steadfast in honoring the kupuna before them.
Their new release Ho’okanaka features a beautiful collection of traditional Hawaiian music. This album includes
materials
ranging from new music written by Bobby Moderow, entitled Endless Miles to traditional favorites such
as E Maliu Mai, Nani Hanalei and Kalama’ula, which evokes the beauty of Molokai. Also, included is a
beautiful rendition of Mai ‘Ae I Ka Hewa done in a slack key instrumental style. This album continues
to manifest Maunalua’s strong belief of Ho’okanaka.
Maunalua continues to play their music in their unique blend of harmony, ‘ukulele artistry and kiho’alu “slack key”
style,
with an energy and spirit that has been passed down from those musicians who have preceded them.
They wish to share their Ho’okanaka with you.
