Product Description
Five Corners Music is proud to present the first Best
of collection from Mauis Reggae
Ambassador, Marty Dread. This release focuses on the highlights of his ten-year
recording
career and sets the stage for his future. Ranging from early hits such as
his chart topping
recording debut, Wicked Wahine and his calling card song Reggae
Rock Maui Style
(No Mo Slippah), to his most recent successes, such as
Another Day in Paradise and
On the Beach. Also included are six unreleased songs and rare
remixed versions of classic
Marty Dread hits such as Pray for Them with Pato Banton and
United We Stand with The
Pharaoh. This compilation not only shows the artists musical growth
but also showcases
his versatility. Musical styles range from Ska (Walking in Kingston), Rocksteady
(Til Im Over
You), Roots Reggae (We Need to Learn), R&B (United We Stand), Hawaiian
(Rain), Samba
(Surfer Girl), Dancehall (On the Beach), Dub Poetry (Mouse in the House),
Lovers Rock
(Ready for Love), and Ballads (Partners for Life).
Influences from his vast worldwide touring can be heard throughout the C.D.,
such as the
samba influence in Surfer Girl, which was recorded in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil, features
Sly & Robbie. Syonara reflects the haunting melody of the
Koto guitar of the Far East
and recorded with top musicians on the Island of Guam. Going Back
to Tahiti is a tasty
morsel of Tahitian language and feel which features Polynesian superstars
O-shen and Fiji,
with the rhythm laid by the legendary Firehouse Crew from Jamaica.
Rain exhibits the
artists exposure to Hawaiian music and culture as Leiohu Ryder chants
the words in the
language of her ancestors as Marty Dread sings in English. The only live
track Paradise
was captured in 1997 at the House of Blues in Hollywood, California as Marty
Dread
opened for Bob Marleys backing band, The Wailers.
