Product Description
Joyboy Productions presents a compilation CD from
| the original movie soundtrack, "Ho`okipa."
The producers of "Divers" return with another
pumpin' soundtrack that's sure to get
you out of your seat. An album of diverse and emerging styles in local and
Hawaiian
music from the contemporary, to the growing Hawaiian-fusion styles,
to local-style hip-hop.
Featured artists are local residents of Hawaii and predominantly of Hawaiian ancestry.
Cody "Pueo" Pata, has been around the contemporary
Hawaiian music scene
for quite some time. Pueo is well known throughout the
Hawaiian islands and as
far West as Japan for his falsetto style of singing as well as, a Kumu Hula.
Songs
included on the CD are "Punua Polena" and "He
Aloha No Ka `Ukiu".
Kahele, an up and coming group of Hawaiian immersion graduates
that
have created a new niche for Hawaiian language in music by infusing such
influences
as ska and rock into their music. Their contributions of "Ku`ualoha",
"Feel Irie", and
"Walls Come Down" are a welcome and refreshing
addition to the soundtrack.
ASR, (Assault Squad Riderz) an independent local hip hop
group with a cult
following on Maui and in the car show circuit. They have a mainland feel
with
a distinct local appeal. They have also contributed to the previous works
to the
Joyboy Productions production, "Divers".
Their songs include "Tonight"
and "Stand Up".
Hayley and Bubs - (B.U.B.), relative newcomers to the
Hawaii music industry
and have delivered once again a sure fire hit with "Sweet Action".
The sweet sound of
Hayley Makanani blends flawlessly with the "ragga"
rapping style of "Bubs" Ramos.
Pulama Collier, debuts on this soundtrack with the title
song "Ho`okipa". Together
with the assistance of the talented and creative man himself, Kanoa
"GoMega" Kuakaua,
along with Bishop Lietz have created an updated version
of a decades old song.
Kupa`aina, it was with careful consideration that we chose
to use the only
non-Maui-based song in our line-up, however, after reviewing several choices
we
endeavored to choose the most appropriate song to fit within the contextual
guidelines
of the film. In other words, we needed an upbeat, uplifting, and fun song.
Kupa`aina
was suggested to the producers of the film by a friend, and after listening
to a sample
of their music, the producers went out and purchased copies of "Simple
Island People"
and after a thorough selection process, "Overload On Automation"
won over the hearts
and minds of the filmmakers and became the obvious choice. This process
was extremely
important, its purpose being the opening scene for the film.
Producing this album was a joy and a privilege. We would like to thank everyone involved.
We hope you enjoy this album!
