There are three Dennis Kamakahi compositions that have never been released.
Kuu Lei Papahi
(my decorative lei) was written for his home in Aliamanu. Ka Loke Ula
Lahilahi (the delicate red rose)
was written in Santa Cruz, CA, while Dennis visited there. Dream Lady is
a folk number written for a
girlfriend long before his marriage to his wife, Robin, who became the inspiration
of his song Pua Hone.
Dennis Kamakahi is one of Hawaiis most prolific composers, slack key
artist, vocalist, and the recipient
of the Na Hoku Hanohano Award (1980) with over 400 songs to his credit.
A former member, of the
legendary Hawaiian Renaissance Music Folk Group, the Sons of Hawaii (1974
1994). Many of his
compositions have become classics: Pua Hone, Wahine Ilikea, Kokee,
E Hihiwai, Golden Stallion,
Kou Aloha Mau A Mau, just to name a few.
David Kamakahi this young virtuoso has studied the styling of grand
ukulele master Eddie Kamae.
At the age of 22, David is fast becoming notable in the field of Hawaiian
music and beyond. Already
a featured artist and vocalist on four CDs since the age of 16, his career
in music is just starting to
blossom. He has traveled the U.S. mainland and Japan, performing concerts
with his father
and is also a music publisher and writer.
